Getmyboat does not offer insurance through the platform directly. Watercraft operators must have insurance in place that covers their vessel for rentals or charters. If you require information regarding insurance we can recommend our partner Boat Charter Insurance.
Getmyboat + Boat Charter Insurance (BCI)
When it comes to insurance, we evaluated every possible model and helped to develop a best-in-class solution. The product that we helped create with an exclusive partnership with Boat Charter Insurance (BCI), is an annual policy that covers both personal use and rental coverage, which replaces a boat owner’s personal policy.
The reason why this is best for boat owners is that they only pay once, and get covered for every trip booked on Getmyboat within the policy year. Most other marketplaces add an up-charge to every booking made through the platform, which ultimately takes money away from the owner. We want our owners to keep as much money as possible and this coverage allows them to do that while having the peace of mind that they are fully insured.
BCI coverage is available in the USA, Canada, Latin America, and Europe. There is a $25K minimum hull value required for boats (PWC coverage is NOT available).
Getmyboat does not require operators to use this policy, nor charge additional fees for not using it. It is simply an insurance option that replaces an owner’s standard annual coverage, with full protection for rental bookings. Some mainstream insurance providers may offer boat rental endorsements. You can check with your current insurance provider to determine if a rental endorsement can be added to your personal policy. This will generally depend on your insurance carrier.
Please note: Owners take sole responsibility for making sure their watercraft is safe, secure, and seaworthy. Any insurance questions should be handled directly by your provider as policies, laws, and regulations vary from state to state and by country.
