Our latest feature offered on Getmyboat allows boat owners to put a Captain Cost for their trips. This feature was designed with bareboat charters in mind, where a captain must be arranged and paid for separately. We know it can be challenging to explain to renters how much a trip is going to cost when captains fees are separate from their transaction, which hurts your booking completions. This solution eliminates the need to use cashapps and manage multiple payment platforms for each booking.
With this new feature, renters can now see the cost of both the boat and the captain within the offer, and pay once for their trip all upfront. Getmyboat will handle paying you and the captain separately to ensure compliance with bareboat regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I start adding the captains cost in my offers?
When creating an offer you will now see a +Captain Cost option under the primary trip cost, this will allow you to add a separate captains cost to your offers and boost your conversion rate.
*TIP - Don't forget to edit your listing descriptions and pricing to reflect the change.
*NOTE - If you add a captain cost, and have no captains registered you will need to add captains or assign yourself. (If you are operating a bareboat charter and assign yourself, be aware this may cause an issue with the USCG).
-
How and when do captains get paid
Captains payments will be processed the same day as the trip once it has completed, directly to their bank account.
-
What are the fees for captains
There are no fees for the captain at all 0%. The renter pays 13%.
-
Can the owner collect the payment for captains, and pay into my account?
Yes. But you should list the boat as captain included in the cost. If you are a broker, then you should be collecting the entire fee up front, and paying the captains.
-
How do captains get assigned to a trip and selected by the renter
As an owner you are able to send a list of recommended captains that the renter can choose from once their trip is booked. We recommend sending this via the messaging system on Getmyboat and once the renter confirms which captain they would like to use you can then select that captain from a list with Getmyboat and assign them to the trip yourself. -
Who assigns the captains?
Once a booking is confirmed you would go to your Getmyboat Inbox and you can select from your list of captains or select "Invite a new captain" to input their email, first name, last name, and phone number - then click "Send Invite". The captain will then receive an email to "Accept Invite" which directs them to input their payout details. Once complete you'll be able to assign captains to confirmed bookings.
-
Will my captains be available to other owners?
No. This service does not allow any captain to work on any vessel. The goal is to improve how owners work today with their own list of recommended captains.
-
Will the captains receive tax documents at the end of year?
Yes, we will produce a 1099 for captains.
-
What if the owner has to change captain at the last minute?
Just call the Getmyboat customer service team who will make the update for you.
-
Can I add the captain fee to my listing?
Yes we encourage owners to add their captain fee in their listing description to be as transparent as possible with renters. Hidden fees and bait and switch pricing tactics may increase inquiries, but greatly reduce the quality of the experience and ultimately reduce conversion rates.
